Our Love of Yoga is Endless.
Not only does our Founder, Jac, have a practice that she loves, she is also a trained yoga teacher and has been practicing this ancient art for over 15 years.
Why We Love Vinyasa
Vinyasa yoga is a very subtle, beautiful, introspective practice and exercise can be a side benefit. Yoga is about getting to know yourself better and learning how to love yourself.
Vinyasa yoga has so much to do with improving circulation and alleviating congestion in the organs. By opening and stretching, this allows our organs to release and open bringing fresh blood and oxygen to each organ.
Meditation is focusing the mind, and vinyasa yoga focuses the mind because it gives you something to focus your mind on. It’s a dynamic meditation. Whether it’s the breath, the movement, the bandhas, or the asanas, there’s a very strong mental component to vinyasa yoga practice. Vinyasa yoga can be instrumental in stabilizing and focusing your entire life.
In vinyasa yoga, the breathing is through the nose. For each movement, there is a breath. The rate of the breath and the rate of the movement need to be synchronized, so it’s a slow, even, smooth, inhalation and a slow, concentrated exhale.
Yoga is about listening and executing a task. Each pose has many tasks, and one of them is the drishti. Gazing in a specific direction helps to create the meditation for each pose.
Our Biggest Learnings From Our Practice
Vinyasa yoga stills the mind, giving it the ability to process what the practice brings up to the surface — the joyful stuff and sometimes the uncomfortable stuff as well. Our favourite instruction from one of our teachers is 'being comfortable with being uncomfortable' No truer words have been spoken especially when you are in Malasana (yogic squat).
Vinyasa yoga teaches us how to be loving toward ourselves. How to be compassionate to ourselves, because human beings have self-defeating and self-limiting tendencies. We are our own worst critics. Practicing vinaysa yoga brings the content of our beings to the surface so we can see it. Vinyasa yoga helps us learn how to accept all the parts of ourselves that aren’t as evolved as we might like them to be.
See you on the mat Firies xoxo
